WHY SHOULD YOU COME TO THE WEEKEND?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is this for?

The Weekend is a diverse gathering of people who embrace and celebrate multigenerational friendship that is rooted in the life and teaching of Jesus. This is truly a multigenerational gathering – so it’s for everyone. The last time we were together, the youngest was a baby and the oldest was 89. The Weekend is not affiliated with a specific church or denomination, and all faith backgrounds are welcome.

Will there be speakers?

We have amazing speakers lined (or lining) up, and you will not want to miss their insights on what it means to live out key teaching of Jesus within the context of community. This gathering is about much, much more than great speakers though. It is about multiple generations and communities coming together to be inspired and unleashed into the adventure of following Jesus. That being said, stay tuned . . . we’ll update the speakers and teaching content along the way.

Can I bring my entire family?

Yes, all are welcome! We are a group of friends who thrive on multigenerational friendships. Each person brings something different and perfect to this gathering, and there is going to be someone here blessed by your – and you family’s – presence at camp. We value family so much that we have a special program for children (called Kids’ Club) during the main sessions. For more information on Kids’ Club see the FAQ section, “Is there childcare?”

What if I want to invite my community from home?

We consider it a privilege for groups of friends to attend The Weekend together. Come one, come all! This gathering is not formally publicized; it’s truly about friends inviting friends who invite their friends . . . so please, invite your friends!

What is the lodging situation?

The Canyon at Washington Family Ranch is a Young Life camp, so most lodging is in bunkrooms that sleep anywhere from 4 to 14 people. We room people together by either gender or family. Many people (especially families) want a private room, and we do our best to accommodate this request. For the larger rooms sleeping more than 4 people, there are 2-3 bathrooms, so if 2 or 3 families room together there is bathroom privacy. Due to Covid concerns, this year it is very likely that each family will have its own room. When you register, there is a place to indicate who you want to room with – and 99% of the time we can accommodate this request. If we cannot, we will contact you to discuss options. Click here to get an idea of what the different housing options look like. (Note: At this time we do not plan to use The Ranch House.) To guarantee a private room, register for specialty housing. Unfortunately, these rooms are more expensive than a standard bunk room.)(
If you have questions about lodging, contact us at theweekend@centered.org.

What’s included in the cost?

Your registration fee covers everything once you arrive at camp except extra snacks or drinks you choose to buy from the Sarsaparilla (that’s the camp’s snack shop) or items you may want to buy from the gift shop (t-shirts, etc.). Everything else is covered: Meals, main sessions, Kids’ Club, and all of the numerous free time activities (zip lines, go-karts, etc.).

Can I get a refund?

If The Weekend is cancelled due to Covid-19, 100% of your registration fee will be refunded. All but 5% of your registration fee is refundable until August 6, 2021. After August 6th, all fees are non-refundable. To cancel your registration, email theweekend@centered.org.
If a personal emergency arises the causes you to have to cancel after August 6th, we will do our best to refund up to 95% of your registration fee. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a refund after August 6th become of the financial commitments we have to meet on our end based on fixed costs. If we are able to provide a refund, it will be after September 10, 2021, and will be less a 5% administrative fee.

What activites are at the camp?

During free time you can relax poolside, go for a swim or jump off the high dive, zipline, go-kart, paddleboard on a lake, hike, play basketball in the largest building in the State of Oregon, grab a coffee or ice cream, and more!

Where is Washington Family Ranch located?  What is the camp property like?

Washington Family Ranch is a Young Life property that is located about 45 minutes outside the small town of Antelope, Oregon (population 40). The property as two camps on it: Creekside and The Canyon. The Weekend takes place at The Canyon. Click here for more information about what the camp is like.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, no. Washington Family Ranch has a strict no pet policy.

Can I bring my RV or trailer? What about a tent?

Unfortunately, no. The camp is not equipped to meet this request.

Is there childcare?

Yes! We offer Kids' Club for children ages 3 through 5th grade. Kids' Club takes place for 2-3 hours in the mornings and evenings so that parents and/or caregivers can relax and enjoy the main sharing sessions and small groups. Children under the age of 3 remain in the care of their parents/caregivers at all times. Our all-volunteer team can only provide care on a 1:5 ratio, so if we do not have enough volunteers your child(ren) may be placed on a Kids' Club waitlist. We have always been able to accommodate all children and believe this will be possible again. Registering before July 15th will help to make this possible.

What are the camp’s Covid-19 guidelines?

It will be a little different this year, but we are confident that it will be GREAT because it is so important to be together! Washington Family Ranch's has to follow the rules and guidelines institured by the State of Oregon, and as Covid-19 infection and death rates continue to decline it is possible restrictions will change (for the better!) between now and September 3 (the first day of The Weekend). Make sure you check back for updates. Here is what we know right now:

  1. Each person will be placed into a cohort of up to 30 people. Meals and other activities will be done as a cohort.
  2. Masks will be required indoors, outdoors when social distancing isn’t possible, or if more than one cohort is participating in an activity. Within cohorts or in your cabin masks are not required.
  3. No linens can be provided. Sleeping bags (or sheets), pillows, and towels will need to be provided by each guest.
  4. Anyone with Covid-19 symptoms will be required to isolate (Washington Family Ranch will provide isolation rooms) and will be sent home ASAP. The rest of the cohort can remain at camp but will be in quarantine.
  5. A quick and simple daily screening will be required for all guests and staff. This includes taking temperatures and completing a questionnaire about symptoms.
  6. When indoors, ventilation will be increased, seating will be assigned by cohort, masks are required, and sanitizing hands before entering is requested.
  7. Coffee service will look different than in years past. No self-service stations are allowed so there will not be 24/7 access, but the camp will do its best to still provide coffee.
  8. At this time, breakfast and lunch will be planned outdoor meals, and dinner will be indoors whenever possible. All meals will be served with no self-service option (including coffee).

Does the camp provide linens?

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, the camp is currently unable to provide linens of any kind. You will need to bring your own towels, wash cloth, and bedding (sheets/blankets or a sleeping bag).

Is the Covid-19 vaccine required?

No, it is currently not required. For everyone's safety, we do encourage either getting vaccinated or 72 hours priro to camp taking a Covid-19 test in order to help ensure the camp is Covid-free.

What will my middle school or high school student do?

Students participate in everything the adults do. They are placed into similar age small groups and have a college age or older facilitator who will lead the group through important discussions relevant to their age. They will have an opportunity to interact with the speakers and other adults who will engage with them in conversations rooted in what it means to follow Jesus in daily life. In addition, we try to plan special top-secret activities. They are guaranteed to be FUN!

I have not been before and would like to talk to someone about The Weekend. Who do I reach out to?

We would love to connect with you at theweekend@centered.org.

Are there scholarship resources?

Yes, there are limited scholarships that are available. For more information, reach out to theweekend@centered.org.

I have dietary restrictions. What is the food sitaution?

Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten free? Dairy free? Even pineapple or broccoli free? The Washington Family Ranch kitchen crew is absolutely fantastic and can probably meet your dietary needs. When you register, there is a place to identify your dieatry needs and/or restrictions. If you fill out this section, we will forward this information to the camp and the supervising chef will make sure your needs are met. On occasion the camp is not able to meet strict dietary needs; if this is the case, we will reach back to you.

I need to bring my own food because of strict dietary needs. Is there a refrigerator I can access?

Yes! To make arrangements, contact the weekend@centered.org.
